As a consequence of his Trotskyite youth, this Blogger does not enjoy viewing or listening to politicos he agrees with; he likes to view and listen to people in opposition to his beliefs. Taking delight in noting and memorializing their errors in thoughts, actions or philosophy, as he prepares his fantasy Revolutionary Indictment against the enemies of the people.
Indulging in that peculiarity means that this Blogger thoroughly enjoys reading the NEW YORK TIMES and viewing MSNBC.
Jen Psaki hosts a program on MSNBC; she is a former Press Secretary to Joe Biden; she is the sublime in the equation which describes the office of Press Secretary; it went from the sublime to the ridiculous, Karine Jean-Pierre, when she resigned.
Ms. Psaki is very smart, articulate and passionate; however, watching her program also reveals her fatal flaw as an American; a flaw widely shared by American Liberals; she cannot countenance, respect nor work with people she does not like.
It is that fatal flaw which endangers the future of the Republic in the 21st Century.
It is a new American flaw; the flaw that you have to like someone in order to work with them, is a new American flaw; birthed in AFTERNOON SPECIALS, or special episodes of sappy sitcoms.
In 1960, the film, THE ALAMO was released; about the martyrdom of the Texan garrison at the old Spanish mission, the Alamo. It starred Laurence Harvey as the headstrong, arrogant, unlikeable Colonel Travis, and Richard Boone as Sam Houston.
“HOUSTON: Travis, I've never been able to like you. But you are one of the very few men I would trust with the life of Texas. …THE ALAMO.”
There you have it; in a life and death situation, likeability has no value; only competence or warrior instincts matter in an existential situation.
Under Joe Biden, American Liberals have made a concerted effort to make likeability in the Officer Corps of the American Military more valuable than warrior instincts, or strategic ability or tactical competence.
Liberals want the American Officer Corps to be liked by the rank and file; American Liberals, want the American Officer Corps, to be in tune with the temporary and trendy social values and mores of the rank and file; versus the enduing values and mores of what it takes to win battles, campaigns and wars.
American Conservatives call the attempts of American Liberals to social engineer the Office Corps, into social workers in uniforms, WOKE.
One female commentator on MSNBC’s program MORNING JOE, stated that she could not understand how anyone could serve in a military which was not Diverse and Inclusive. That opinion was echoed by a lady on THE VIEW. And Lest we forget, the American Military should be, MUST be loaded with equity; how can any service member serve under a racist officer? Even if that racist officer gives one the best chance of coming home alive.
This Blogger believes that Jen Psaki would not serve in combat with Field Marshal Jan Christian Smuts; because he was an Afrikaner, a Boer and a racist. As an attorney, he was a government official in the racist Afrikaner regime of President Kruger of the Transvaal. After the Boers were defeated by the British Empire in the Boer War, and Kruger fled into exile, Smuts stayed and became a fearsome commando leader.
After the final ending of the war; he helped found the Union of South Africa; became great friends with Winston Churchill and helped found the United Nations.
As Churchill was a great writer; Smuts was a great philosopher and psychologist in his spare time.
“Smuts was the first South African to be internationally regarded as an important psychologist. During Smuts’ undergraduate years at Cambridge University, he produced a manuscript in 1895 in which he analysed the personality of the famous American poet Walt Whitman….. his next manuscript, which he completed in 1910, entitled An Inquiry into the Whole.....Smuts had no interest in pursuing a career in psychology. He considered psychology as "too impersonal to study great personalities", and believed that the holistic tendency of the personality would be studied best through personology…..Although the concept of holism has been discussed by many, the term holism in academic terminology was first introduced and publicly shared in print by Smuts in the early twentieth century. Smuts was acknowledged for his contribution by getting the honour to write the first entry about the concept for the Encyclopaedia Britannica 1929 edition. The Austrian medical doctor, founder of the school of Individual Psychology, and psychotherapist, Alfred Adler (1870–1937), also showed a great interest in Smuts' book. Adler requested permission from Smuts to have the book published in Germany…..Smuts argued that the concept of holism is "grounded in evolution and is also an ideal that guides human development and one's level of personality actualization."
Adler later wrote a letter, dated 31 January 1931, where he stated that he recommended Smuts’ book to his students and followers. He referred to it as "the best preparation for the science of Individual Psychology"….”
Smuts was a bona fide genius; but why would an enlightened woman like Jen Psaki follow him, an avowed racist, into combat? Why would a woman of color follow him into combat? Why would a Black recruit from the ghetto?
Because the racist had instinctual combat skills; which in war have more value than social engineering skills.
Shortly after the D-DAY invasion, on June 12, 1944, Smuts and Churchill visited the headquarters of Field Marshal Montgomery, commander of British forces in Europe. The headquarters were only seven miles behind the front lines.
As they entered the building, Smuts stopped, sniffed the air and stated: “There are some Germans near us now…I can always tell!”
No one believed the genius…..two days later, “two fully armed German paratroopers emerged from a nearby Rhododendron bush, where they had been hiding all along (they had become isolated from their unit, seeing that they were unable to rejoin they chose to surrender)….History of WW2.”
Which commander would the mother of a Black combat soldier want? An officer who is versed in Critical Race Theory or a racist commander, who flies the Confederate flag in his home, but can sniff out the men who intend to kill her son?
War is not a nice human exercise, and nice people are not always the best commanders. War is a nasty business, involving ambushes, deception, legalized criminality and fire bombing Tokyo. Betting that MSNBC believers can win the next war, as American Liberals are betting, is a fool’s bet.
To bar individuals from command, who can smell the enemy because they are not versed in the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) social mores is suicidal; Jen Psaki and her ilk think that it was the sweet Children's Crusade which retook Jerusalem from the Saracens; it wasn't. It was hard bitten and vicious Norman knights. A military which would rather have uniformed Lady Gagas or Jonathan Capeharts or Anderson Coopers in command; than Xenophons, Cromwells or Henry Vs is embracing doom, for itself and the Republic.
The Liberal approach eliminates American generals like Daniel Morgan of Cowpens, Lighthorse Harry Lee, Winfield Scott, Zachary Taylor, Phil Sheridan, William Sherman, George Thomas, Arthur and Douglas MacArthur, and George Patton from commanding.
The mission of the America Military should be atavistically simple and was, before Joe Biden, logically simple; kill enough of the enemy so that you win the war; and stop killing, when the war is won.
Would be warriors do not want to be educated in the proper use of pronouns; they want to serve the Republic, with the best chance of coming home alive. The upshot of Liberal Military policies is that there is a dramatic shortfall in military recruitment; only nine percent of American youth, ages 16 through 21 said they would consider serving in America’s DEI Military.
Liberal Military policy ,under Joe Biden, has such a shortfall of volunteers, that it now seems plausible that America cannot maintain its security in a hostile world.
“It's been fifty years since Defense Secretary Melvin Laird announced the end of the nation's military draft system,….After a quarter century of continuous, mandatory military service, Laird's announcement marked the close of a major chapter in American conscription practice, and fundamentally altered the public's perception of what the armed services are, and to whom they belong.
Now, more than a half-century later, the country's all-volunteer force has reached a crisis point; 2022 was the Army's worst recruiting year since the end of the draft in 1973, missing its goal of 60,000 new soldiers by approximately 25 percent. Other military branches have experienced similar shortfalls — a trend that's fueled the growing question of whether the Pentagon's recruitment difficulties are a reversible problem or a permanent feature of the 21st century.B
For most Americans," the country's all-volunteer force ("AVF") is "something to be celebrated, but foreign to their daily lives," said The Atlantic. Eliminating the draft has given the bulk of the population "the freedom to be indifferent to their military, shifting the burden of service to a smaller, self-selected cohort of citizens." That cohort, frequently comprised of legacy military families, has shifted recently as well, as "disillusioned families steer young people away" from service, The Wall Street Journal reported.
"Influencers are not telling them to go into the military," former Joint Chief of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen told the Journal. "Moms and dads, uncles, coaches and pastors don't see it as a good choice."
…. only 9 percent of young adults are open to military service, Air Force recruitment chief Maj. Gen. Edward Thomas Jr. told The New York Times in 2022. ….Some national security commentators have proposed even more drastic solutions: In a recent essay for The Defense Post, military expert Ray Vawter raised the possibility of an of a Foreign Legion….military times.”
Joe Biden has recently nominated General Brown as Chairman of Joint Chief of Staff. An Air Force General, Brown seemingly got the promotion because he is for " accelerate, change. or lose."
Perhaps, one of the reasons that young Americans are not volunteering to defend their nation; is that they do not want change in the American Military; perhaps, the potential warriors want the ancient virtues, competence, risk analysis and ability to work with the best people, even if you don't like them personally.
"The president noted that 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of an integrated military, the 75th anniversary of women serving in the force, and the 50th anniversary of the all-volunteer force. "We're celebrating the root of our national strength, the most American of ideas, most self-evident truth, that all women and men are created equal," Biden said. "There is no more powerful testament to this than the armed forces of the United States of America. The steps we've taken over the decades, to harness the full diversity of our nation have grown our armed forces into the greatest fighting force … in the history of the world."...DoD."
Joe Biden's statement begs the question; if the new American Military is so accomplished in uplifting a diverse fighting force, why are so few potential warriors volunteering to be a part of this great success?
Perhaps the Liberals at MSNBC can answer that before it is too late.
The fact that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Jen Psaki, and MSNBC commentators cannot work with Americans they disagree with; even on matters as existential as military readiness, means that Liberals are willing to turn over America’s defense to Foreigners; Readers, we are talking the decline of Rome here.
