Winston Churchill once described Russia as: "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.,"
This Blogger has had cursory, limited, and superficial, dealings in Holy Mother Russia. He found that the best key to understanding it was reading E.M. Forster’s epic novel about Colonial India, A PASSAGE TO INDIA. The novel explores the layers of India, riddle, mystery, enigma.
The good-hearted Brit colonizer, CYRIL FIELDING applies his Anglican modernity and tolerance to understanding India, and fails. DR. AZIZ applies his Muslim mental superiority to understanding the nation his religion conquered, and fails. The Hindu mystic, PROFESSOR NARAYAN GODBOLE may or may not understand India, but he will never tell.
Russia has layers and layers and layers. The modernized Russian, the insular Russian, and, at the hidden core, the atavistic Russian, combining the Mongol and the Viking.
The atavistic Russian does not like suffering; however, he does believe suffering is the raison d'etre for existing. Thus, he is not only prepared to suffer to achieve his goals; he is prepared to inflict suffering, on a massive scale, to achieve his goals.
This Blogger thought President Ronald Reagan always had an instinctive grasp of all the layers of the Russian three layered character; this Blogger attributes that ability, of a former lifeguard from Illinois, to his career as a B film star, in a lot of Westerns. Reagan recognized Russians as the Native Americans from his B Westerns; a great people, capable of being defeated, but never to be trifled with.
Texan James Baker must have watched many Westerns growing up, for he treated Russians with the same respect, coupled with a fast draw ability.
President Clinton trifled with the Russians, for he thought he and his clique were smarter than any Russian temperament; President Bush 43 thought he was more spiritual than any Russian; President Obama thought he was more sophisticated than any Russian, at any layer.
President Trump had the right instincts, but not enough discipline and focus.
Joe Biden is a fool, with a deeply ingrained bad karma. He is America’s answer to POLONIIUS.
When future historians write about the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian War, the key date will be December 30, 2021; that is when the former KGB agent, KGB Colonel, President Vladimir Putin spoke with Joe Biden, at Putin’s request.
Putin and Biden had spoken, via video conference, on December 7, 2021 with no resolution of the looming Russo-Ukrainian crisis. As a result of that December 7th phone call, Putin requested another phone call.
In this Blogger’s cursory, and limited exposure to KGB agents, they will accommodate a second meeting, accept a second meeting, but to REQUEST a second meeting for only one reason.
CONFIRMATION.
In the first meeting, the KGB agents have measured their adversaries; if they find their adversary weak, they will request a second meeting for the sole purpose of confirming their original evaluation.
Putin found Biden weak, perhaps feeble, during the December 7, 2021 call; which is why he REQUESTED the December 30, 2021 call. Without Obama’s smarts behind him, Biden proved himself incapable of measuring up to Putin.
“Putin requested the telephone call this week, and Biden -- who believes nothing can replace direct conversations between heads of state -- was eager to oblige. Biden and Putin had last spoken on December 7 in a videoconference that ended with a pledge to restart diplomatic discussions -- but no indication Russia was preparing to de-escalate….CNN,”
As this blog is being written, the Russo-Ukrainian War has passed its fifth month anniversary; thousands have been killed, millions displaced. Russia is having a field day bombing Ukraine back into the 19th Century.
Russia is raining missiles down all over Ukraine, killing every innocent unlucky to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
The Ukrainians have put up a masterful, resolute, defiant defense. But, at this moment, the Russians feel so confident that they are dropping the other shoe.
“Moscow is seeking to overthrow the Ukrainian government, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, going back on earlier statements that the leadership question was up to the Ukrainian people.
“We will definitely help the Ukrainian people to free themselves from the regime that is absolutely anti-people and anti-history,” Lavrov said on Sunday, five months to the day since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian and Ukrainian people will live together in the future, he said in Cairo at the start of a diplomatic trip to Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, to shore up support for Russia’s war.
……….Lavrov’s remark came as the Russian leadership has publicly toughened its position in the Ukraine war in recent days.
On Wednesday, Lavrov threatened to occupy further territories outside the eastern Donbas region where most of the fighting is currently concentrated, in what would be an expansion of the Kremlin’s previously stated war goals.
….With his announcement that he wants to change the political leadership in Kyiv, Lavrov also contradicted his own statements in April.
“We have no plans to change the regime in Ukraine,” the Russian chief diplomat said at the time in an interview with the television channel India Today. It was up to the Ukrainians to decide under which leadership they wanted to live, Lavrov asserted at the time…….. SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST
Russia has always wanted regime change in Ukraine, since the election of Volodymyr Zelensky as President of Ukraine. The coterie of former KGB agents governing Russia loathe Zelensky. They never wanted to deal with a former television comic……who is Jewish.
Is Vladimir Putin anti-Semitic? Could an ex-KGB agent be anti-Semitic?
In 2013, Putin gave a speech at the Moscow Jewish Museum, in which he stated:"The decision to nationalize the library was made by the first Soviet government, and Jews were approximately 80–85% members”
That figure is true only to a Russian anti-Semite.
President Zelensky is taking actions which imply that he knows the war is lost.
“President Volodymyr Zelensky has continued his purge of Ukraine's security service (SBU) by dismissing the organisation's deputy director.
Volodymyr Horbenko is the latest official to lose his job after Mr Zelensky said bosses failed to root out pro-Russian elements in the agency.
Regional chiefs in several other cities were also dismissed, Mr Zelensky said.
It comes as MPs voted to dismiss SBU chief Ivan Bakanov and Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova.
….Neither of the top officials, both of whom Mr Zelensky personally appointed, are accused of betraying their country. But they ran agencies where Russian interference appears to have impacted Ukraine's ability to hold territory in the opening days of the war.
Speaking after the vote, the leader of Mr Zelensky's Servant of the People party, David Arakhamia, said new information had recently come to light, and the purge of the SBU would continue in the coming days.
"There will be many 'cleanses', because over the years many residents of the Russian special services have secretly entrenched themselves within the walls of the SBU, unfortunately," Mr Arakhamia said, adding: "They got access to materials that they didn't have before."
On Sunday, Mr Zelensky said over 60 former SBU and prosecutor's office employees were now working against Ukraine in Russian-occupied areas….BBC.”
“Zelensky accused SBU generals Andrei Naumov and Sergei Krivoruchko of treason, referring to them as “traitors” and “anti-heroes” who violated their military oath.
Naumov joined the SBU in 2019, then became head the main department of internal security in July 2021. According to journalists investigating his movements, Naumov left Ukraine only hours before Russia’s full-scale invasion. His family left earlier.
Meanwhile, the president’s dismissal of Krivoruchko followed reports that he commanded officers to evacuate Kherson before Russian troops captured the city. During their departure, computer servers were allegedly left in the SBU building in Kherson from which Russian forces could gain access to sensitive security data.
It since became known that the Kherson SBU officers were sent to Chernivtsi.
Just a few days later, counterintelligence services within the SBU detained Igor Sadokhin, assistant of the head of the Kherson SBU and head of the Antiterrorist Center, on suspicion of treason. He was alleged to have shared information about the evacuation operation to Russian special services.
As a result of Sadokhin’s actions, the National Police Department confirmed that Russian “helicopters pursued them” and “they could have lost their lives.”….Kyiv Post.”
You don’t purge winners.
Finally. President Zelensky is taking personal steps to prepare for his exile; preparing for a new life as an international celebrity, or revive his career as a television comic, or guest host on MSNBC, or taking Chris Cuomo’s place on CNN.
He and his wife appear on the cover of VOGUE magazine; their portrait taken by that fabled chronicler of celebrities, Annie Leibovitz.
Victorious warlords do not have their picture plastered on the cover of VOGUE in the middle of war. Losing war lords do, for they have to worry about their next gig.
This Blogger, nor the Readers of this Blog, were surprised by Russia revealing their goal of regime change in Ukraine. On March 2,2022, mere days after the start of the Russo-Ukrainian War, this Blogger published what he believed would be honorable peace terms for ending the conflict.
Those terms were and are:
“Zelensky must go; hero that he is, he must go. He is Hannibal of Carthage to Russia’s Rome. As long as he is there, Russia will want to salt the earth of Ukraine, so nothing will ever grow there again. That exile is neither fair nor just but necessary. Necessary always trumps fair and just to end a war. He can relocate to America, and have a talk show on CNN+, with Colonel Vindman, as his second banana( did the Reader see how great Colonel Vindman was on Larry David’s CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM?, a natural second banana). For Peace in Ukraine, Zelensky must be declared persona non grata. It will be extremely difficult to get a ceasefire with Zelensky still in power.
Ukraine must pass a constitutional amendment barring joining NATO, barring allowing nuclear weapons to be stationed on its soil.
Russia must pay reparations, to relatives of civilians killed and living civilians injured; financial aid to rebuild damaged infrastructure and give free oil and gas to Ukraine for a decade.
Russia must accede to Ukraine joining the European Union.
Ukraine must implement the reunification of the Ukrainian and Russian Orthodox Churches under the Patriarch of Moscow.
Ukraine must cede some territory to Russia…THE MAXEY CHRONICLES.”
Hopefully, President Zelensky can spare a few minutes from prepping for his VOGUE shoots, and wage peace.
the Zelenskys auditioning for prime time, too bad there is a war on.
