The great schism in the American body politic about guns, gun violence and mass shootings began on December 7, 1993; when, a Jamaican immigrant, Colin Ferguson, got on the subway at the Flatbush Avenue Station in Brooklyn. He took that train to the Jamaica stop, and changed trains, boarding the Long Island Railroad, heading east. He was carrying a Ruger P89 semi automatic pistol. And 160 rounds of ammunition.
"As the train approached the Merillon Avenue station in Garden City Park, Long Island, Ferguson drew the gun, dropped several cartridges on the ground, stood up, and opened fire at random. During the next three minutes, he killed six people and injured another nineteen. Some passengers mistook the gunshots for caps or fireworks until a woman shouted, "He's got a gun! He's shooting people!" Ferguson walked east (forward) on the train, pulling the trigger steadily about every half second. Several passengers tried to hide beneath their seats, while others fled to the eastern end of the train and tried to enter the next car. Ferguson walked down the aisle of the train and shot people to his right and left as he passed each seat, briefly facing each victim before firing. An article in The New York Times called Ferguson's actions "as methodical as if he were taking tickets." Ferguson said, "I'm going to get you," over and over as he walked down the aisle."
That horrific incident split the nation on guns; the widow of one of the victims, in righteous fury, launched a successful campaign for Congress, based on Gun Control. Conservatives, on the other hand, were amazed that the nation had allowed a mad dog killer in the country, under its immigration laws. Liberals wanted to tighten gun control; Conservatives wanted to tighten immigration laws. In retrospect, if the Republic had indeed tightened immigration laws, perhaps it would not have to suffer George Santos or Ihlan Omar.
America has always had home grown killers; that should be expected since the nation was seized by the means of genocide, and genocide requires a lot of killers.
Billy the Kid killed 21 men, Wyatt Earp, a good guy, killed 17; and John Wesley Hardin killed over 40, including a poor slob killed, because his snoring was disturbing Hardin.
Aside from its own home grown killers, America has attracted killers from all across the globe.
Once, this Blogger and his brother were in Oslo, when it was a sleepy town. They were both tipsy from indulging aquavit, at the local bar. They could not find their way back to their hotel. It was 4 AM; on the street, checking to see if the doors to the shops were locked, was a lone policeman.
The brothers asked the policeman for aid; the policeman offered to walk them to the hotel.
This Blogger’s brother noticed that the policeman was not carrying a firearm and inquired; why not?
The policeman, delightfully, informed the brothers; there was no need for one; all the violent criminals had immigrated to America.
Has there ever been a nation more welcoming to violent criminals than the United States?
In the last week, California has suffered mass shootings, perpetrated by two elderly Asian men, killing their social peers or co-workers.
America is flooded with murderous DNA; America has even suffered a teacher shot by a six year old youngster in Virginia.
Usually mass shootings are caused by young males; but now American evil has seeped into elderly Asian males, and six year old kids.
It is obvious, in 2023, this American society has lost control of a great many of its males, from six to seventy.
Is it the pronounced and profound secularization of America, which is causing this loss of social control? Secularization has removed any religious barrier to mass murder; leaving flimsy morality as the only barrier to mass murder. Is America reaping that social failure?
Males are inflicting mass murder at a rate unsustainable in civilized society.
Young males, by definition, are not averse to killing, a healthy plurality are partial to killing, given the right circumstances. They are, by definition, extremely dangerous. But ancient Asian men who like ballroom dancing, how does secularization afflict them?
Readers ,please allow this Blogger to posit this theory; all this male killing, from 6 to 70 is an atavistic, primitive, primordial male reaction to the feminization of American society. America's feminized society has forgotten, that males would rather have the admiration of their male peers, than a mutual respect with females; or self admiration as a killer, than the respect of a feminized society. Think Robert DeNiro’s character in TAXI DRIVER, talking to himself as he prepares himself to go kill for respect.
The downside of 2023 kick ass women, is that they no longer have moral authority over kill crazy males. The Sandy Hook mass shooter killed his kick ass mother before killing the young kids at a grade school. The Uvaldi mass killer tried to kill his grandmother; the Asian Monterrey Park mass shooter tried to annihilate feminized ball room dancers.
“(the Uvaldi killer) Attacking women became a pattern. He was also fired from his job at a Whataburger after a month for threatening a female coworker. And later he was let go of his job at Wendy’s. …… ….TEXAS TRIBUNE.”
Secularization removed a male Father figure, God, from setting standards; leaving those standards to be set by empowered women. The result is a onslaught of mass killings, forged in rage against feminization.
This Blogger’s eldest brother was 24 years older than he; the brother served in combat in Italy and southern France. He said he was somewhat nervous about going into combat, nervous about both getting killed, or killing a fellow human being.
His Captain assured him; the killing had no importance; it was who you killed that was the important thing. Killing Nazis was good; killing innocents was bad.
16 million American men served in World War II, 21% of the American male population, one in five. When they were mustered out, all knew how to handle a gun, and most had Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) ; the mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. “Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.”
In that time frame, practically every American male had guns, and experience with guns: the TV repairman,the teacher, the Krugs bakery delivery man, the reporter, the lawyer, the bellboy, the car mechanic, the taxi driver and the actor. All that PTSD and yet NO mass shootings.
So, why are mass shootings so prevalent in 2023, and not after two world wars; when mental problems and weaponry were ripe for them to occur?
And why are the victims of those mass shootings innocents? Why are they school children, concert goers, church goers, worshippers in a temple, grocery store shoppers? Co-workers? Ballroom dancers?
Because America no longer has a male authority figure to tell males, innocents should not be touched.
In this once and future Age of Mass Shootings, America can no longer count on religion to tame the male beast; and God knows, neither secularization nor feminization can tame the savage wild beast in man. .
As for asking Americans to give up their AR-15 assault rifles; that cannot be done while the Biden Administration empowers and enables open borders. Americans know that the government does not care about their personal safety, nor will the government protect them, from the golden horde of drug cartel operatives crossing the southern border.
Mocked for his faith; denigrated for his masculinity, left bereft of protection for love of illegal aliens, the American male sees the AR-15 as his EXCALIBUR.

Gary Abernathy:WASHINGTON POST….What is it that makes people pick these guns up and go commit these crimes? What's the culture? What's the sickness of the soul that makes someone wake up one day and say, I'm going to pick up this gun and go massacre people? Let's be — let's acknowledge these guns don't get up and do this themselves.
Ruth Marcus:I would suggest — Gary and I are good friends, so we can disagree here — the sickness of the soul is — exists in other countries. Mental illness exists in other countries. It is America where we have more guns than people. When you're going to have — when you have more guns than people, you're not going to be able to eradicate gun violence….….PBS.”
