This Blogger has an abiding and perhaps defining admiration for American films of the 1940s, 50s,60s, especially film noir and Classical Westerns produced during those years.
Why?
The first reason, perhaps the main reason, is that they were written, in the majority, by men who had seen combat, or participated in war, or had friends and/or relatives in war.
They seemed determined to grapple with the major issues of Life; such as, when one bent over to tie one's shoe lace and the bullet meant for him, killed his best friend. Is that personal luck? Random luck? Or Pre-ordination? If it is pre-ordination, does that mean you must live a life justifying the escape from certain death?
Since most grievously wounded men whine for their mommies, they never produced art like I AM GLAD MY MOM DIED.
They strove to reveal enduring verities, enduring vanities, enduring flaws, and enduring absurdities in the human condition.
Even in the formulaic films; there was always BIG questions hanging over the characters, their actions and their milieus. They were not consumed by the modern artistic deconstruction of Life.
In 1966, there was a spy drama entitled TRIPLE CROSS; in it, Yul Brynner played a complex German officer, an aristocrat, a Baron, deeply involved in the 1944 attempt ,by the German Army, to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
The attempt failed.
Of course it did; for we, the audience, knows that Hitler survived 46 assassination attempts and combat in World War I. He could only die by killing himself.
Upon hearing of the failed assassination, the German Baron has the following astute obervsation about the German war effort: “We're doomed. When the aristocracy of the German army cannot even blow up one single room at a given time; we deserve to lose.’
Below is a picture of the highway to Hell, the entrance into Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. This Blogger believes that there is a general consensus, among sentient Americans, from apolitical American bystanders to rabid woke Liberals to scheming Carlist Trumpians, that America is on the Highway to Hell. The only question left is :Is America doomed
Let us check some milestones;
-Harvard Business school invited Kim Kardashian to guess lecture its students on her brilliant business plan. Alas, this Blogger wonders how many Harvard Business students will want to make an explicit sex tape and then leak it to the Internet to insure their success in business.
-Columbia University named an Egyptian female bureaucrat as its next President. Columbia is the university which had Dwight David Eisenhower, winner of the Crusade in Europe, as one of its past Presidents. Now, in 2023, Columbia cannot find an American worthy of that honor, neither an American war hero, nor an American person of color, nor an American woman of color. What a breakdown in American talent or American self confidence If the Ruling Elite cannot find one American worthy enough to be President of Columbia; well, perhaps America deserves to lose.
-America, 2023, the most technically sophisticated society in History, replete with TIK TOK and AI cannot keep its commercial planes flying, because of a goof up in software servicing. The American absurdity of Doomsday.
-In diverse, multicultural Minnesota, a small college, affiliated with the splintering Methodist church, fired a Hispanic art History teacher; after she showed her art history class a pictorial depiction of the prophet Muhammad, painted in the 14th Century by a Persian Shiite artist. The college called the act Islamophobic, after a Somali Sunni complained. Perhaps a Methodist trained in Methodist-Baptist conflicts cannot adjudicate between Sunnis and Shiites about what is Islamophobic.
-In Michigan, a state representative informed America about something that 6,000 years of human medicine did not notice; and in doing so, founded a new discipline in medicine, the Ionesco School of medicine, based on absurdity. She unveiled something about humans which had eluded Sumerian, Babylonian, Indian, Persian, Greek, Roman, Arab, Renaissance and modern practitioners of healing; a modern observation which was beyond the intellectual grasp of Hippocrates, Lister, Blackwell, Jenner, Fleming and Salk. Her observation was: “….not all students who menstruate are female.”
-In Boston, there was an opportunity to honor Martin Luther King Junior and his wife, Coretta, with a massive piece of public art. The opportunity, and the heroes, called for an American Pieta; instead the American heroes got a piece of self indulgent artistic trash; with the Kings unidentifiable; something in line with the most obtuse and decadent Weimar public art.
-In the small, farming, California town of Goshen, six members of a family were massacred because of drugs. Among the slain was a 16 year old girl, murdered while fleeing the massacre, with her ten month old baby. The killer stood over the fallen teenager and executed her. Then he shot her ten month old baby.
Law officials said it was the work of cartel killers.
All across the nation, crime is exploding; yet our official Ruling Elite does not see a connection between the exploding crime rate and Biden’s Open Borders policies. All these cartel killers have free access, unimpeded access, to America, because of Biden’s Open Borders. No nation can be a nation without borders ;no nation can have a safe population with Open Borders.
-According to Pew Research, America is now, officially, a secular society. That is a pathway to doom; for secular societies are based on morals. And morals are relative; ergo all secular societies are based on relativism. That means they are doomed.
Religious societies are based on codes. With all its hypocrisy, codes are better than morals. With codes, it is not that one does not want to be corrupt, or decadent; it is because that, because of codes, one can’t. Because of codes, one cannot shoot a ten month old baby.
--Current American society is intoxicated and infatuated with zombies, whether they are fast moving or slow moving. The key factor of zombie preoccupation is that zombies have no souls.
American pop culture is elevating entities which have no souls; that is a Doomsday scenario.
Why is American pop culture doing that?
To prepare America, to get Americans acclimated to the upcoming zombie apocalypse. And the zeitgeist knows its coming, for every day drug cartels are creating soulless zombies.
In the days before insulated streaming, one of the great joys of movie going was going to see a populist film, in a tough neighborhood; a neighborhood in which the audience talked back to the screen.
This Blogger went to see the populist film, SOL MADRID, in a tough neighborhood. The theater was stuffed with patrons.
In the film, the villain was played by Telly Savalas; one of his ex-girlfriends, a former drug addict, has reformed herself and was helping federal agents ruin his empire.
Savalas discovered her participation in that effort, and had his minions kidnap her.
Defiant, she stood up to him and said she was not afraid of dying, or losing her life if it meant bringing him down.
Savalas replied:” I don’t want your life; I want your soul.”
When Savalas said those lines the audience erupted in a furious outpouring of curses; curses this Blogger had never heard of, nor conceived of. The people understood Savalas; and what he was after. He wanted to turn them, and their sons, and daughters, mothers and brothers into soulless zombies. And they hated him, on a visceral level beyond the capability of the Ruling Elite.
After Savalas said those lines; his minions took the defiant woman and began shooting her up with heroin, until she was an addict again, a zombie again.
There you have it; because of Open Borders, drug cartels are creating soulless Americans all across the nation; entities not beholden to God, nor society nor their fellow men but to their need. The 2023 Walking Dead, the 2023 ZOMBIES.
In 2023, there is a strange and perfidious malady stalking the land, a madness of counter intuitiveness, a glorification of TOPSY TURVY, in biology, administration, education, civics, art, codes, ethics, heroes and raisons d'etre.
Because 2023 America tolerates and empowers this strange and perfidious malady, it may well deserve to be doomed.
