This Blogger has a friend, who is an actor. He played the lead in a Los Angeles production of STEAMBATH. STEAMBATH is one of those plays not produced nearly enough on America’s stages( MARAT/SADE, NO EXIT,SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR and THE BALCONY being others).
STEAMBATH is set in an afterlife, in which that afterlife is set in a steam bath; God is there, as the Puerto Rican attendant.
It is an absurdist play; but, since all of us are living through these absurdist times, it resonates. As the Israeli/HAMAS devolves into absolute absurdity, perhaps God indeed is a Puerto Rican steam bath attendant.
The people of Gaza are starving; they need food. Israel, at war with HAMAS, the terrorist overlords of Gaza, has restricted food supplies; in an effort, this Blogger assumes, to get the emaciated people of Gaza to turn against HAMAS.
To alleviate the starvation, a consortium of nations: America, Jordan and Egypt have begun to parachute pallets of food supplies into beleaguered Northern Gaza.
That is when the absurdist God of STEAMBATH struck.
“Officials from Gaza's Hamas-run Ministry of Health and an eyewitness told CBS News that five people were killed Friday by an aid airdrop package when at least one parachute failed to properly deploy and a parcel fell on them. The people were in the Al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza, and the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. Eastern).
CBS News was told there were two boys among the five people killed and that 11 others were injured in the incident....…..CBS NEWS,”
Two young boys, who had survived bombing from the air, street warfare, tank fire and starvation, were killed by food dropped from heaven, manna.
That occurrence is so absurd; it must be divine. In fact, absurdity is Divine.
Now, that the Israel/HAMAS war has grown so absurd that the STEAMBATH God is paying attention; it is time to end it.
The FLOUR MASSACRE.
Food is in such short supply in Gaza,that a lone food truck, containing flour was swamped by Gaza residents; they began to act like Oakland, California residents, back when the S.L.A. radical kidnappers of Patty Hearst, got the Hearsts to distribute free food as part of the ransom deal.
The offer of free food to people who need food, strips civilization very quickly from mankind.
In response, to the Gaza residents running amok for food, the IDF, the Israeli Defense Force, opened fire, with live ammunition, killing over 110 hungry Palestinians. The work of a STEAMBATH God.
This Blogger was not shocked by the massacre; in every war there maybe a massacre; in a war fought, in an urban environment, without clear battle lines, where every civilian is a potential killer of your friends, massacres are likely the cost of doing business.
In urban warfare, such as the current war in Gaza, every soldier is an ant, every civilian a termite.
Because, so few Americans in 2024 know or have lived with combat veterans, they are naïve about the terrible nastiness of war.
Recently, on American television, there was an acclaimed series about war veterans pursuing careers in advertising, MAD MEN. It treated war as a bad summer camp experience in the Catskills.
In the 1950s, there was a book/film about veterans pursuing lives in post war advertising, THE MAN IN THE GRAY FLANNEL SUIT. The hero, TOM RATH, in the film is played by moral stalwart Gregory Peck. His devoted wife learns that while he was fighting in Italy, he had an affair with an Italian girl; which produced a baby boy.
She confronts him with his moral lapse, and he breaks down; telling her that he killed 17 men during the war.” Rath, who killed at least seventeen men in the war, including--in a terrible accident--his best friend (he suspects he killed more, but cannot be sure)”
RATH also tells his wife, he slit the throat of a German teenager for his overcoat.
War makes murder reasonable. No one should be surprised, including Americans and/or HAMAS terrorists that if one unleashes war; one wakes up Massacres.
On October 7. 2023, HAMAS terrorists did the impossible; they stormed into Israel and rampaged. It was, what a John Ford Western would call a “murder raid.” HAMAS spent their time in Israel, murdering, killing over 1,200 Israelis, making rape a sport and kidnapping the young, the infant, the old, the fit, the sexy and the infirmed.
The HAMAS murder raid humiliated then and current Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu; who considers himself a Biblical sword and shield of Israelites, a modern David, corruption included.
The History of the Holy Land informs us that Men in the Holy Land never change; perversely, that lack of change may be why it is the Holy Land.
Brothers kill brothers, Kings commit adultery, Kings murder the husbands of their adulterous partner; children are slain and joyfully mutilated. Those who show mercy lose divine anointment of God; murderous rock stars like David, are given the throne by divine intervention, over decent men like Jonathan.
The Holy Land teaches us that Men like living in an endless loop of communal violence. never changing. When there is an aberration, a mutation, or a sport of nature in the Holy Land, such as a peacemaker; the aberrant is assassinated, like Egyptian peacemaker President Anwar Sadat or Israeli peacemaker, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. And to prove Peace in the Holy Land is an aberration; all the peacemakers are killed by their own people.
In his Biblical way, Netanyahu has unleashed a Biblical war of revenge on, not merely HAMAS, but every Palestinian breathing in Gaza.
What is Netanyahu thinking, to be so merciless?
He is thinking that he is living in the Book of Samuel, as over shadowed King Saul; and he must kill many Palestinians to become King David.
HAMAS, under its leader Yahya Sinwar, slaughtered 1200 Jews in its October 7th Murder Raid. In response, Bibi Netanyahu will kill tens of thousands of Palestinians.
The Holy Land has seen it before; when Jonathan and David returned to Jerusalem and King Saul, in triumph, after defeating the enemies of Israel, this happened: ”as they danced, they sang, “Saul has killed thousands of men. David has killed tens of thousands.” That song made Saul very angry. It really upset him. Samuel 18:7-14 .”
Netanyahu is King Saul; he wants to be David. He wants to kill tens of thousands of Palestinians; because Sinwar killed thousands of Israelis.
HAMAS killed 1200 Israelis, BIBI the King wants to kill 120,000 Palestinians in revenge, even Palestinian seeking food.
However, there has been a signal from the Divine, that it is time to end the war in Gaza; the killing of two hungry boys, by food from Heaven, is so absurd that Netanyahu should understand: he is now out of his league.
When food from the Heavens kill boys; it means the Heavens want the war ended.
So, the question is: how can the war be ended, with the kill lust for revenge of Israelis exercised?
First, Israelis should recommit themselves to the concept that their war is not with the Palestinian people in Gaza, but with the HAMAS terrorists.
Therefore, a ceasefire, A PERMANENT ceasefire should be predicated on the people of Gaza turning over all the HAMAS terrorists, still alive, who were involved in the 10/07 Murder Raid, to Israeli justice; to be tried, in glass booths and then, after a fair trial, hung, like Adolf Eichmann. The world knows, from the history of the Jewish hang men who executed the guilty Nazi war criminals, at the end of the Nuremberg Trials; no one can make the guilty suffer more, in their last moments as a Jewish hangman.
Netanyahu must shift the focus of his vengeance from making Palestinians suffer, to making the HAMAS terrorists suffer mightily.
Would Palestinians give up HAMAS terrorists for a Ceasefire? For Peace? For FOOD? For Water? For Medicine?
This Blogger suggests Israel should give the Palestinians a chance to make that choice.
