The 4 Theories of Why Mankind Has Not Met Extraterrestrials: HANSON'S THEORY, GRBs, EXTRATERRESTRIAL SNOBBERY and You Know Why
It is a great mystery to bewildered astrophysicists that Mankind, in its push into the heavens, has not made contact, formal contact ,with extraterrestrials.
The scientific community has deemed it a fact that, extraterrestrials must exist, as a mere consequence of mathematical probability, like an actuarial chart.
How could, with so many stars, trillions of them, and planets, only Mankind seemingly has produced a high civilization capable of reaching into the frontiers of space?
Where are the Klingons?
With all these trillion of stars racing around out there, there must be one which has produced a caliber of technological life capable of contacting Mankind.
NASA scientists have been working on this conundrum.
They have offered up THE GREAT FILTER THEORY aka HANSON'S THEORY, to explain.
HANSON’S THEORY-
The GREAT FILTER THEORY is also known as HANSON’S THEORY, for it was first formulated in 1996,by Robin Hanson.
The theory “posits that other civilizations, potentially many, have existed during the history of the universe, but they all wiped themselves out before they got a chance to make contact with us….daily beast.”
These alien civilizations arose and developed capabilities equal or better than Mankind’s, but Climate Change, over population, famine, pestilence, artificial intelligence, new diseases, new animal species, and new microbes, drove them into extinction before they could contact Mankind.
““The key to humanity successfully traversing such a universal filter is… identifying those attributes in ourselves and neutralizing them in advance,” JPL astrophysicist Jonathan Jiang and his coauthors wrote in a new study….The fact that our universe seems basically dead suggests that it is very very hard for advanced, explosive, lasting life to arise,” Hanson wrote….referring to the possibility of a civilization achieving cheap spaceflight and colonizing a lot of other planets, fast. In Hanson’s theory, there’s something—or a lot of somethings—that prevents intelligent life from thriving on its home planet, expanding to other planets and surviving long enough to make contact with aliens such as us.
At least one leading advocate of the search for alien life has no objections to the theory. “I think it is plausible,” Avi Loeb, a Harvard physicist, told The Daily Beast.
To understand the Great Filter, Jiang and his coauthors turned a mirror on humanity. Whatever seems likeliest to kill us might also pose an existential threat to intelligent life on other planets, they proposed. They drew up a short list of the biggest threats to the human species, all but one of which are entirely our own fault.
Sure, an asteroid might hit Earth with enough force to kill pretty much everything on the planet. That’s not necessarily something we can prevent. But the other civilization-killers the JPL team think are likely are also self-inflicted. Nuclear war. Pandemic. Climate change. Runaway artificial intelligence.
Jiang’s team chalks up these existential risks to what they describe as deeply-ingrained dysfunction in intelligent beings such as humans. “Dysfunction may snowball quickly into the Great Filter,” the researchers wrote.
……“The foundation for many of our possible filters finds its roots in immaturity,” they wrote. We could grow up as a species, dismantle our nukes, switch to clean energy, tamp down on the zoonotic viruses that cause the worst pandemics and even develop better technology for deflecting planet-killing asteroids.
All of these reforms require humanity to work together, the JPL team wrote: “History has shown that intraspecies competition and, more importantly, collaboration, has led us towards the highest peaks of invention. And yet, we prolong notions that seem to be the antithesis of long-term sustainable growth. Racism, genocide, inequity, sabotage... the list sprawls.”
With peace, love and understanding—and some major technological breakthroughs—we just might survive our own self-destructive tendencies and defy the Great Filter. And if we can work together to get past the filter, it stands to reason other civilizations could, too. Our own survival should give us hope that someday, somehow, we’ll meet the other Great Filter survivors.
Or maybe not. Hanson himself thinks Jiang and company got the Great Filter, and the potential solutions to it, partially wrong.
The global cooperation Jiang and company advocated as the means of our survival could be the very thing that ends up destroying us, Hanson told The Daily Beast. “Clearly they recommend more centralized control and governance of our civilization,” Hanson said. “But I actually see excess governance centralization as the most likely contribution to our future Great Filter.”
In Hanson’s conception, the more we decentralize, the more likely some of us to survive and thrive. Imagine isolated homesteaders riding out a devastating pandemic, or private space-explorers—your Jeff Bezoses and Elon Musks of the world—establishing off-world colonies on the Moon or Mars. Colonies that could endure even as some calamity wipes out everyone on Earth.
Other critics think the entire Great Filter theory is bunk. It’s possible we haven’t met aliens yet not because they’re all dead, but because … well, we haven’t met them yet. The universe is vast. Even if there are billions of thriving alien civilizations, they’re almost certainly very far away. It’s going to take patience, and a lot of searching, to eventually find them…..the daily beast.”
In 1956, 40 years before Robin Hanson developed his theory, Anne Francis showed off her comely legs in an epic science fiction film, FORBIDDEN PLANET, based on William Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST. In the film, a highly developed race, THE KRELLs, destroyed themselves overnight, when they invented a machine which could turn subconscious thoughts into deadly weapons.

On November 19, 2017, this Blogger explored why Mankind has not encountered Extraterrestrials; because of GRBs, Mankind is alone in the Universe.

“Mankind has to be the entity to discover the secrets of the Universe, for, because of GRBs, Life on Earth may be the OLDEST Life in the Universe, and consequently Mankind the most intelligent life in the Universe.
“….it may be the case that complex life on Earth is just about as ancient as it is possible for complex life to be. And, since complexity necessarily precedes intelligence, that might mean human beings really are the first intelligent life forms to evolve in the Milky Way.
…. gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), the most energetic phenomena yet discovered in the universe. No one is certain what causes them, but the leading theories are a hypernova—the sudden collapse of a massive star to form a black hole—or a collision between two neutron stars, the ultra-dense remnants of supernovas (slightly less massive collapsed stars).
What is not in doubt is their prodigious power: a typical GRB generates as much energy in a few seconds as a star will in its entire multi-billion-year lifetime. That would be bad news for any life-bearing planet which was too close.
……….The idea that a nearby GRB (nearby, in this context, means within about 10,000 light-years) would wreck the biosphere of an Earthlike planet was proposed in 1999 by James Annis of Fermilab, in Illinois. First, the blast of radiation would instantly kill most living organisms on or near the surface—not just those facing the blast but also, via secondary showers of charged particles and re-emitted gamma rays, those on the hemisphere facing away from it.
Second, the gamma rays would also stir up chemical reactions that create ozone-killing molecules sufficiently powerful to destroy more than 90% of an Earthlike planet’s ozone layer, and keep it destroyed for several years. This would let in intense ultraviolet light from the planet’s parent star, which would blitz any complex biological molecules it hit….….If astronomers ever do discover life on another planet, then, it is unlikely to be much older than life on Earth itself. EXTRATERRESTRIAL SNOBBERY-
Then again, there may well be extraterrestrials all about, and among us, building pyramids along the Nile, Cuzco in Peru, sinking ATLANTIS.
It may well be that Mankind has not met extraterrestrials because extraterrestrials don’t like this immature, vain, fad driven, infantile species; that will commit suicide in pursuit of a selfie.
The reason Mankind has not met extraterrestrials is that perhaps extraterrestrials are British trade unionists. At the height of British trade union power, the Union would send people to Coventry, ostracizing the poor bloke and his family, not talking to them, not engaging with them socially, not playing with their children, not praying with them. Perhaps the extraterrestrials have sent Mankind to Coventry, until we stop brutalizing the planet and the other species on it.
Perhaps once Mankind stops killing koalas , whales, elephants, giraffes and capybaras for blood lust, they will reveal themselves.
In the brilliant science fiction classic, Robert Wise’s THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, the extraterrestestial reveals himself, only to issue a warning; that a space federation is prepared to blow the Earth to smithereens, unless it mends its ways.
YOU KNOW WHY-
Mankind has not encountered any extraterrestrials, for there are none, for the very primordial reason; God only made Mankind.
Remember, the ruins of Gobekli Tepe reminds us that religion came before civilization; and that civilization was created, to serve religion.

Gobekli Tepe is older than all those.
How old is it?
Gobekli Tepe is 12,000 years old, almost twice as old as Stonehenge, almost three times as old as the Pyramids.
Göbekli Tepe was built to worship a Deity.
Worship is not a by-product of Civilization; Civilization was created to worship

The need to build a place to worship triggered farming, triggered civilization itself. There are no civilizations of atheists, and by definition, there can never be civilizations of atheists
Modern physics seems to be on its way to proving that Mankind is alone in the Universe as an intelligible entity ( see GRBs).Mankind maybe it, not only the game in town, but the only game in the Universe capable of self-awareness, spirituality, Science and Civilization.
