When this Blogger was dealing with Soviet and East German Communists, he was gifted, by them, with a telling insight. That insight was that Communists understand their corrupt, Panglossian and weak bourgeois enemies much better that the bourgeois would ever understand the dedicated Communist.
One East German Communist told this Blogger that the Communists would eventually win, because there was not enough gangster in the bourgeois to eventually win. (He wound up a Lutheran pastor).
Chinese Communists are Communists(you think?); which means they may delay the realization of their objectives( such as signing a truce with the Nationalists); but they will never detour from the realization of their objectives.
Chinese Communists want to rule the world, from the Middle Kingdom. The Republic stands in the way of that objective.
Communist China is not afraid of Uncle Joe Biden, nor do they respect him. Swathed in swarminess , sentimentality, ex cathedra self delusion, Uncle Joe does not have the wit, perspicacity , instinct, inclination or street smarts to contain or defeat the Dragon hungering to run amok.

Now it seems that Communist China is perverting CRISPR, gene editing, in order to create SUPER SOLDIERS.
“Has China discovered a super-soldier formula through the capabilities of genetic engineering? A U.S. government official claims this is exactly what is happening.
Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe penned an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal that claims the Chinese government is attempting to enhance the capabilities of soldiers through genetic engineering. It’s not the first time such a claim has been made. Ratcliffe’s article, cited in an NBC report, outlined his belief that China is the greatest threat to the United States in terms of military and economic power.
Ratcliffe’s concerns build on theories raised in 2019 about China’s capabilities with CRISPR, particularly after Chinese researcher He Jiankui used CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing to alter the DNA of embryos for seven couples in 2018. Although international outrage resulted in Jiankui’s incarceration in China,Ratcliffe suggested the Chinese government would attempt to capitalize on these capabilities with gene editing and continue to experiment on adults to create biometrically advanced super soldiers the likes we have seen only in movies.
Ratcliffe isn’t the first to follow this line of reasoning.Last year, some researchers posited the Chinese government would attempt to use the gene-editing capabilities of CRISPR to enhance the performance of some soldiers.
“…the PLA is pursuing military applications for biology and looking into promising intersections with other disciplines, including brain science, supercomputing, and artificial intelligence,”Elsa Kania and Wilson Vorndick wrote in Defense One last year.
In their column, Kania an expert on Chinese defense technology at the Center for a New American Security, and Vorndick, a consultant on China matters and former U.S. Navy officer, said the People’s Liberation Army of China highlighted exploiting biology as a priority in its strategic writings. The researchers said biotechnology development is “gradually showing strong signs characteristic of an offensive capability.”For them, that includes the possibility that “specific ethnic genetic attacks” could be employed. They cited a 2016 Chinese report which characterized CRISPR-Cas technology as one of “three primary technologies that might boost troops’ combat effectiveness.” In addition to potential gene editing, the 2016 paper suggested that soldiers could be given the drug modafinil due to its cognitive enhancement applications.
Regarding the use of CRISPR in China, Kania and Vorndick noted that many of the ongoing experiments in this field are being conducted at PLA facilities. China’s institutions have emerged as “major centers for research in gene editing and other new frontiers of military medicine and biotechnology,”….biospace”

“There are three kinds of scientific discoveries; the first kind helps the species survive, those include vaccines, penicillin and realizing the concept of microbes. The second type of discovery could lead to the destruction of the species, the splitting of the atom. Finally, there are scientific discoveries which will alter the species in ways not envisioned in reality but only in sci-fi literature.
This week, two female scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering a process ripped from the pages of BRAVE NEW WORLD by Aldous Huxley.
French woman Emmanuelle Charpentier and American Jennifer A. Doudna were honored for their work in discovering a process to edit genes. Their discovery is profound in its ability to do good, and profane in its ability to do bad.
“The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was jointly awarded on Wednesday to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna for their 2012 work on Crispr-Cas9, a method to edit DNA. The announcement marks the first time the award has gone to two women.
“This year’s prize is about rewriting the code of life,” Goran K. Hansson, the secretary-general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, said as he announced the names of the laureates.
Dr. Charpentier and Dr. Doudna, only the sixth and seventh women in history to win a chemistry prize, did much of the pioneering work to turn molecules made by microbes into a tool for customizing genes — whether in microbes, plants, animals or even humans…..It has been only eight years since Dr. Doudna and Dr. Charpentier — now the director of the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens in Berlin — co-authored their first paper demonstrating the power of Crispr-Cas9.
….Crispr has also become one of the most controversial developments in science because of its potential to alter human heredity. In 2018, He Jiankui, a Chinese scientist, announced that he had used the technology to edit the genes of human embryos, which yielded the world’s first genetically modified infants. Dr. He’s experiments were decried by many in the scientific community as irresponsible and dangerous.
……Dr. Charpentier and Dr. Doudna both stumbled across Crispr by accident. Dr. Charpentier, a microbiologist, spent a number of years studying Streptococcus pyogenes, a species of bacteria that causes scarlet fever and other diseases. Inspecting the microbe’s DNA in 2006, she and her colleagues discovered a puzzling series of repeating segments.
A few scientists had studied these segments since the 1980s, but no one was sure of their function…. It became clear that between these repeats were bits of genetic material derived from viruses that had tried to infect the bacteria…..
……After writing a paper on their discovery in 2011, Dr. Charpentier recognized she needed to collaborate with an expert on RNA molecules to make more progress. That expert was Dr. Doudna.
……..Dr. Charpentier, 51, and Dr. Doudna, 56, met at a cafe in Puerto Rico in 2011 while attending a scientific conference and immediately started to collaborate on understanding how Crispr worked. Soon, they realized that they might be able to harness the RNA molecules to seek out and alter any piece of DNA.
Bacteria defend themselves by using these molecules to recognize the genes of an attacking virus. The weaponry includes an enzyme called Cas9 that slices the viral genetic material.
Dr. Charpentier and Dr. Doudna realized that they could synthesize a piece of RNA that targeted and chopped up not just a spot on a viral gene — but on any gene. In 2012, the scientists proved this concept could work.
…..If researchers used Crispr molecules to make cuts at two neighboring sites on a piece of DNA, for example, the DNA stretch would heal, sewing itself together without the sliced segment. It became possible to insert a new piece of DNA in the place of the removed one. Subsequent research revealed how to use Crispr to alter single genetic letters.
What had begun as an ancient system of antiviral defense quickly became one of the most powerful and precise genome-editing tools available to science. In less than a decade, Crispr has become commonplace in laboratories around the world.

John Ratcliffe, Donald Trump's director of national intelligence, claimed that China would stop at nothing to dominate the U.S. and the rest of the planet “economically, militarily and technologically," and was already testing super soldier technology.
One of the ways that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is seeking to gain a military advantage over its rivals, he says, is to use the gene-editing tool CRISPR to modify human embryos to breed military personnel capable of fighting harder, longer, and more efficiently.

……Major General He Fuchu, the former president of China’s Academy of Military Medical Sciences and current vice president of the Academy of Military Sciences, is just one major Chinese military figure who is talking up the potential of future super-soldiers.
